Hello friends! Welcome to Be Healthy Be Fit. In this article, we are going to talk about what are the benefits of Garlic.

Though ancient Indian medicine has recognized the value of garlic for thousands of years, it is only recently that the Western world has become interested in garlic.

Garlic is being increasingly accepted as an aid in the prevention of diseases like hypertension, coronary heart disease, a blood-clotting disorder, and even cancer.

In 1990, some 50 scientists and physicians from all over the world gathered in Washington to discuss and share their views about the exact role of garlic in the promotion of health and prevention of disease.

Garlic contains more than 200 different chemical compounds. The promising findings and possible benefits of garlic have led the prestigious National Cancer Institute of America to devote more than 20 million dollars to research and study of this substance. In the U.S, Dr. Robert Lin, the organizer of First World Congress on garlic, has emphasized that the medical community must try to understand and utilize the benefits of garlic.

Asians, including the Japnese, Chinese, and Indians have long believed in the medicinal value of garlic and included in their diet. The use of garlic is comparatively low in Western countries. In Germany over 20% of the adults currently said to be taking garlic pills regularly. However, it is best to take garlic in its natural form. I have given a link to garlic capsules and garlic paste at the end of the article. If you don’t have access to raw garlic, give it a try.

Some Medical Benefits of Garlic Are As Follows:

In a normal person, 70-80 % of cholesterol is synthesized in the liver. Between 20-30% of blood cholesterol comes from dietary intake.

The sulfur compound the garlic blocks the formation of cholesterol in the liver and, thus total blood cholesterol level declines. The concentration of bad cholesterol, that is LDL, and triglycerides go down, the good cholesterol, that is HDL is raised. The net effect of these changes is a reduction o heart attack disease.

For example, a study from the University of Wisconsin in the U.S, animals fed garlic found to have lower levels of LDL cholesterol.

A study conducted by Dr. Arun Bordia, from the Tagor Medical College, has clearly established the benefits of garlic. A total of 423 patients who had already suffered a heart attack were divided into two groups. One group received the daily supplement of garlic juice in milk; the other group did not. The results were revealing! Patients in the group that received garlic juice had lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol, and had lesser number of a second heart attack. In fact, the death rate in the garlic group was approximately 50% as compared to the ‘no garlic’ group.

Those who took garlic also reported better general health and improved physical and sexual performance. If you want to know how to boost sexual power you can read my Boost Your Testosterone Naturally article. Furthermore, garlic reduces the incidence of pain in joints and asthma as well.

Garlic can reduce the tendency of the blood clot by blocking the formation of thromboxane, a clotting factor. And lowering the level of fibrinogen, a blood-clotting protein. Blood-clotting disorders are responsible for deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, strokes, and heart attacks. Millions of people die each year due to these problems. It has claimed that garlic may even be better than aspirin in prevention a blood clot.

One of the best benefit of garlic is, it can help you prevent several cancer. Some of the chemicals in the garlic blocks the nitrosamine formation of the body. Nitrosamine causes cancer of the stomach. Cured meats and charred food are capable of causing more cancers because of excessive formation of nitrosamine.

In countries like China and Italy adults who take regular garlic reported to have a lower incidence of stomach cancer. Early studies from Penn State University have already suggested that garlic can cut down the risk of cancer of the esophagus, mouth, larynx, stomach, and colon.

Garlic has suggested having anti-infective properties. In Russia, farmers plant garlic among strawberry plants as a defense against destructive insects. In ancient cultures, garlic as worn around the neck to prevent colds. Garlic can potentiate(boost) your immune system function. People who eat garlic regularly have fewer colds and coughs.

The western world is becoming increasingly enchanted by the medicinal value of garlic. In California, the Fresh Garlic Association has launched the campaign to increase the consumption of fresh garlic in the United States. In the state of New York, garlic growers have already started to celebrate September 14 of each year as ‘Garlic Dat’!

The strong pungent smell of garlic is caused by sulphur in the garlic. It is becoming clear that garlic does not have to be consumed in its raw form to be effective. Some drug companies have successfully eliminated the smell of garlic. Currently, many countries take garlic tablets and capsules daily as their part of life.
